Mirage OS Press Release

  • Encapsulating workloads as micro-VMs and then running this on a hypervisor
    • Boot very quickly and very small
    • Use case: secure, small applications in the cloud
    • Internal uses: XenServer, big potential for testing
    • Works with any version of Xen
  • This is a Xen subproject
  • 2 free press release from LF (1 has been used)

Motion.jpg Vote|Motion:  Motion to use Mirage OS 1.0 as press release PASSED by 9 votes

Thoughts: could do a blog post with some further compare/contrast

  • Pictogram voting comment 15px.png Action Matt Wilson (AWS), Guido Trotter (Google): to both ask to get a quote for the press release

  • Pictogram voting comment 15px.png Action Lars: Inform Jennifer and make introductions
  • Otherwise we could look to Citrix, Sherry think Microserver group could care… but needs to think about this.

Jennifer will think through this as well, and see how to weave in

Timing: Release is October 22nd – so that week or the following week

Travel Fund Request

Luwei Cheng Need to make it clear what the ceiling is to him Xen has $6k currently remaining for developer community Daniel (Oracle) and Guido (Google) move to increase request $2,000. Tell him he is approved to $1500 (but will pay up $2000)

Strategy

How to measure success: possible metrics

  1. of paper submissions
  2. of people turning up to events
  3. of people viewing (website views)
  4. conversations on the forums and lists
  5. of users (aka downloads)
  6. activity by org (email domain)

PR Metrics

  1. media reports (in response to press release)
  2. stories related to xen (unsolicited)
  3. xen blog contributions (#, orgs)
  4. xen industry talks (#, events, orgs)
  5. aggregate user list + forum conversations

Metrics to add to middle bucket per Larry:

  1. of cited academic papers
  2. ecosystem around Xen
